Okay, that’s not exactly what these are, but when tagging the pictures, baby bumpers, that childhood ear worm is now stuck in my head. Yours, too??? I should have called them crib bumpers and that would never have happened… Sorry.
The bumpers are finished, and aren’t they sweet!
I know you are wondering what is up with the line down the center of this picture? I was struggling to find a place to get a good picture, with natural lighting, and decided that our workout room would be the best place, it faces south and the daylight brightness reflects off the full wall of mirrors. That line is a seam in the mirror. So now you know!
Next up is the dust ruffle and I’m stumped. There hasn’t been a baby in my house in 25 years so I just don’t remember. But aren’t cribs adjustable from the mattress being up higher when the baby is smaller and you can lower it as they start to pull up? How do you decide the length of the dust ruffle? I see ready-made ones come in about 14″ and 20″ long. I’m assuming those are standard crib heights, but I don’t know. Did you make a long one then later cut it off? Make two different ones? I’m thinking a very clean, tailored style so I suspect I am going to have to wait until the crib is set up to get an exacting length. I don’t think puddling of a tailored skirt will work…..

Love it…you inspired me to include a bumper when I make a baby quilt for a friend. I thought i would answer your last question….Yes mosts cribs/cots are adjustable heights…we just didn”t use the ruffle. We found it always difficult too change when you wash as you need to take the mattress out and then put it back. We gave up at some point 🙂

An idea about the ruffle. What if you did it in two parts…one is the sheet to go under the mattress and have velcro along the each and then you have the ruffle that can be attached and detached easily from the sheet. This would solve my complaint above and it could solve some cost of material ….you can just switch the two ruffle lengths out when you need to. Anyway enough from me, hope your weekend is a good one 🙂

Just go into a local baby furnishing store and measure what for what you like! Most cribs are standard and a dust ruffle looks great with coordinating sheet, bumper etc. Another thing I made when I was having my babies was a custom diaper hanger. Whether you use cloth or plastic, they are very sweet.:)

Looks great. The pattern matching up is a sweet detail worth the extra attention it took. We used a crib skirt when the crib was higher but not when it was lowered. There wasn’t a lot of space underneath then and it wasn’t missed.

Good point, I didn’t think about how much lower the mattress will actually be. That may be what I do. Hmmm…

I never used ruffles, I personally think there too much, but it’s just my taste, I like keeping it simple :-)!

Thanks! I think I’ll be doing a very simple one. I am told this generation uses them to hide all the spare baby paraphenalia, under the crib!
