I’m so glad you’re back

I’ve missed you.  A lot.  I wasn’t sure where you went but it doesn’t matter now.  You are back.   Don’t leave me again.

Listening to my friend Gary talk about all the fabulous smoothies he’s been making, then reading my friend Casey’s blog and all about the green smoothie challenge, I got to tossing around the idea of bringing them back into my life.  I’ve got the Vita-mix, I’ve got the ingredients, I just need to get moving quicker, so that it doesn’t become my lunch…

So today was the day.  It was the slowest, most pitiful run since the beginning.  Maybe because I have run 5 out of the last 7 days?  Maybe because I’ve put on almost 27 miles on these shoes in the last 7 days???  Or maybe it was last nights dinner, sitting like fried food tends to do….  Maybe I need to start fueling, better, prior to working out…..

So a fresh start after that pitiful run.

1/2 of a beautiful Bosc pear

1/2 cup of our wonderful *Up North* frozen blueberries

1/2 scoop of protein powder, unflavored

a splash of almond milk, original

a double handful and then some of fresh spinach

a stalk of celery

a chunk of cucumber

a healthy sprinkling of cinnamon

a few almonds and

some flax seed for Omega 3 and fiber.

Heaven on Earth.  I feel reenergized.  And all is well with the world.

    Great idea!
I find difficulty making smoothies in the winter, psychological I guess. It’s the whole ‘too cold’ thing!!
Come spring though I’ll be joining you on the smoothie plan!! 🙂

You just need to sweat more, Tara!!
Naww, I hear ya, it is harder to drink them in the winter, especially, if you are like me, and prefer the icy ones. I’m trying to do more veegie, less frozen fruity ones and see if that will help. I do feel more refreshed when I drink them regularly, though….

Good point, Elizabeth! I wish I knew where my little bottle of grapefruit oil disappeared to…
So for now I add Cell Food drops, because I have them, and should use them. They do nothing for flavor but they do help with detox!

Wow, grapefruit oil in a smoothie? Why not, just never thought of it!! The search is on!

        Fresh spinach
        Frozen blueberries
        1 scoop protein powder
        3 drops T-Tapp grapefruit oil
some heavy cream, unsweetened, because I’m doing Low Carb and needed some fat to avoid the insulin response from the blueberries. *yes, really!*

Well, heavy cream would not work for me, we do very, very little dairy…. but I understand your point. What about almonds (or other nuts), avocados, coconut oil….. I keep flax seed in the freezer, I don’t care for flax oil, I do have it in the refrigerator, but it isn’t very pleasant, well to swig anyway……. Is there some kind of guideline for fat to sugar ratio?

I didn’t spot these posts right away. You somehow have been flagged as spam! Do you like Spam? LOL!

        Nope! Don’t like SPAM!

I just used what I had in the house. Love almonds in my smoothies! I also like use coconut oil but didn’t have any. Love the taste of avocados too much to mask them in a smoothie. Just give me an avocado with a spoon, please:)

Can’t do the flaxseed in a smoothie because it’s not cooked. Just did a lot of research…uncooked flaxseed=bad for hypothyroid…cold pressed flaxseed oil=okay for hypothyroid. It is great to bake low carb items with. Almost all fiber.

I’m sure there is some type of fat/carb ratio, but I don’t know what it is.

Going to add coconut oil and almonds to my grocery list;)

You guys are inspiring me to do this. Can you use an ordinary blender?

Amanda, just got her first blender, a $30.00 one from Meijer and is not having any problems. If it is an issue, you could just cut items smaller or, for frozen fruit, run them under a little warm water to thaw the edges. I’ve done that with strawberries, in particular. It really does make you feel lighter and healthier….
